I was pretty underwhelmed by the red carpet at the SAG Awards. In fact, I hated most of what I saw. I only had a couple of dresses that I liked and I even included an ensemble below that I didn't fully love (cough cough, Kristin Wiig) because needed a big change (cough cough, remove the choker!).
[ emily blunt in oscar de la renta / amber heard in zac posen / tilda swinton in lanvin / kristen wiig in balenciaga ]
Emily Blunt
looked absolutely beautiful in this green
Oscar de la Renta
gown. The color is gorgeous itself, let alone the beautiful slit, cut, and shoulder strap.
Amber Heard
(who dat?) looked beautiful in
Zac Posen
-- at first glance I thought she was the love child of Scarlett and Charleze! This is exactly what I expected to see on Rooney Mara (who I wanted to be nominated just for the selfish reason that I wanted to see what she would wear) and it's exactly the type of red carpet dress I would go for if I were a famous lady of mystery. I really liked
Tilda Swinton
in
Lavin
and it's a type of dress I have tossed around as a wedding dress idea for the future -- effortless, yet beautiful! Lastly, Kristen Wiig... my dear
Kristen Wiig
. I love all things Kristen and that
Balenciaga
gown, but the choker has got. to. go. Don't hold it against me Kristen, can we still be best friends in my head??? But really, the dress is gorgeous and I couldn't take my eyes off her as she walked across the stage to present Bridesmaids with her co-stars. Scorsese. DRINK!

Blagger
is my third and final (for now!) Butter LONDON polish. I was initially
really
excited for this polish, but now I kind of regret this color choice over other more sophisticated options. I should probably stick to cheap brands, like Sally Hansen, where it comes to "out there" colors instead of dropping mad dolla dolla bills on Butter LONDON. It chipped after a few days wear, so that too was a bit of a disappointment -- but could easily have been a result of my application and not an issue attributable to the actual polish. Nevertheless, I like the color and had fun wearing it. Once the chipping started, I went with my ole faithful trick and quickly applied a really light coat of the glittery Sally Hansen's Xtreme Wear in Time to Shine to extend the life of the manicure.

A yearly favorites video can be somewhat repetitive, given that I present my favorites at the end of each month; but, I still thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite make up items, brushes, perfumes, and nail polishes. Maybe I should do one for clothes and shoes??? Enjoy!

One of my favorite polishes I discovered in 2011 was
Butter LONDON's Wallis
. First off, the packaging. It's beautiful, sleek, chic, whatever you want to call it. The actual polish color is a gorgeous too, a real unique shade, and I love the way it catches the light. It wasn't incredibly long lasting, but I let that slide given the awesome color. Just like beautiful people, beautiful colors get away with everything... This brand of polish is a little pricey, so keep your eyes open for deals -- ULTA regularly has Buy 2, Get 1 Free deals on this polish (that's where I bought mine).

I was so excited to watch the Golden Globes red carpet yesterday and though it was quite underwhelming at times, there were still some really beautiful gowns being waddled around in. I love that E! makes the women climb up and down a staircase to reach Seacrest for an interview. All of the poor women in mermaid/fishtail gowns have the hardest time getting up and down, quite comical. Now I try not to be negative but... let's just say for worst dressed: Zooey Deschanel and her manly sideburns -- I know it was a 60's style look, but I think there is a reason that "vintage" look will never come back. Now that I have that off my chest, time for the favorites!
[ mila kunis in dior / emma stone in lanvin / rooney mara in nina ricci ]
Some of my ultimate favorite colors on the carpet were deep, dark tones of burgundy (I'm looking at you,
Viola Davis
) and straight up, no fuss black.
Mila Kunis
looked gorgeous in a
Dior
gown, but alas, when doesn't she look amazing? Remember that lilac Elie Saab gown
last year at the Oscars
?
Emma Stone
in
Lanvin
was probably my favorite look of the night (the picture doesn't do it justice -- it was far more beautiful on screen and in motion) and
Rooney Mara
is a close second with her black
Nina Ricci
gown.
[ kristen wiig in bill blass / shailene woodley in marchesa / jessica biel in elie saab / charlize theron in dior ]
A far departure from the color tone of the previous gowns, light neutrals and nudes were also another trend on the carpet this award show. I love all things
Kristen Wiig
so this
Bill Blass
number was a hit with me, perfectly elegant and simple at the same time.
Shailene Woodley's Marchesa
gown was incredibly detailed and beautiful, once again... the pictures of it online do not do it justice. Even though
Jessica Biel
looks like she is dressing for her impending nuptuals (and may or may not have a third boob in the middle of her chest), I really liked this lacey number by
Elie Saab
. Lastly,
Charlize Theron
will always look gorgeous in my mind. I think she is just one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood and while this
Dior
gown would normally be a miss for me... on her, it is just stunning!
[ kelly osbourne in zac posen / reese witherspoon in zac posen / sofia vergara in vera wang ]
Lastly, I have got to show actual color some love.
Kelly Osbourne
looked paradoxically modern and vintage simultaneously in
Zac Posen,
which I loved, and
Reese Witherspoon
looked feminine and sexy in Zac Posen as well. Lastly,
Sofia Vergara
looked beautiful in this navy
Vera Wang
gown, though I wish she had some Veronica Lake-esque waves in her hair instead of a boring straight do.

Time to showcase yet another awesome find from the Saks outlet in Petaluma (my mom and I went there 3 times while I was home -- one was due to the fact they forgot to take sensors off two sweaters we bought the second time. But hey, we still ended up buying this dress and some shoes on that third trip; so you win this time, negligent outlet employee.) I got this dress for over 50% off! I was really happy to see that it worked perfectly with my new Shoemint wedges because I wasn't sure if I even owned anything I liked pairing them with.
